Family Outreach
The Opportunity
Family Outreach was in search of organizational longevity and sustainability, and had a fundraising assessment performed to determine readiness for a fundraising plan and strategy. At the same time, energy and effort was being put towards increased participation in the Early Intervention Program. As a result of this fundraising assessment, it was recommended to perform a full organizational assessment in order to provide insight into all components of the nonprofit operations and management that needed organizational development.
At the time, Two Suns was already contracted to work and support the Early Intervention Team with communications, partnership development, outreach, grants, and leadership support to assist with the increased number of participants in the Early Intervention Program. It was a natural fit to expand this relationship and Two Suns came onboard to support the Early Intervention Program and the Leadership Team to perform a full organizational assessment for this regional nonprofit.
The Outcome
Extensively researched and peer reviewed, Two Suns developed an innovative nonprofit organizational assessment for Family Outreach. It included four capacities, fifteen principles, and over 360 indicators with a web application and scoring algorithm. An agreed-upon inclusive process was developed and the full organization, across three different cities and programs, fully participated in providing data for the project. Informant interviews were conducted with over 30 representatives internally and 9 representatives externally to provide a deeper understanding of areas of focus for Family Outreach. This included locating areas of cross-correlation between data points and prioritizing areas that needed immediate attention.
The result was an 82-page report, a 90-minute presentation to the Board, and one of the most highly-respected organizational assessments that has been conducted for a large nonprofit not only locally but nationally. Two Suns continues to provide support by implementing recommendations and strategies based on the organizational assessment. This includes the creation of a strategic plan, implementing recommendations, committee development with Board and staff, and leadership support for identified needs and desires.
While this work continues, support for the Early Intervention program is ongoing. Here, the brand and marketing materials were enhanced, and are now in use for market research and outreach. In addition, Two Suns provides grant research and writing services, leadership coaching and mentorship, and conflict management for the team on a regular basis. Two Suns has developed a strong connection and trusted relationship with Early Intervention and is now a part of the team. Two Suns continues to provide support services to Early Intervention and helps the Leadership Team to implement the organization’s vision as it continues to grow.
